LESS FOR MORE
The earth is dying;
many people often heard this statement. Moreover, there are lots of films that
using earth in the future as its background where the earth has been heavily
polluted by the human itself until it cannot become the place for living
anymore. The things that happened in the film are not impossible to happen in
the real world considering the situation that we face nowadays.
A lot of people aware
about this but can’t do anything because don’t know what should they do or they
haven’t feel the direct influence in their life if they didn’t save the earth.
We as the citizen of
earth have to change our mindset that we didn’t live forever and only for
ourselves. Of course, we don’t want our children to live in a terrible place.
That is our responsibility to make sure that in the future they still can enjoy
the beauty of nature in our world.
What we can do now is
very simple, suggest the people around us to start care about the environment.
Maybe some little things such as to turn the light off when it is not used or
using biodegradable plastic is the best to start our action to save this earth.
If only one hundred thousand people do this kind of thing, it will surely help
a lot because it saves the energy.
Can you imagine that
only in one country, Indonesia, by only one country we produce almost 5.4
million tons of plastic in a year.[1]
If we add with all of the country in the world, maybe in a few decades, the
highest mountain is the world is not Mt. Everest anymore but plastic waste
mountain because plastic can be decomposed in 1000 years.[2]
As the young generation
who has a big influence in the world change, we can do a lot of thing such as:
1.
Increasing other
people awareness about environment sustainability.
We can suggest people
around us to aware about the environment by talk about what should we do to reduce
waste. Remind our family to turn the light off when it is not used or throw the
trash in the trashcan but we have to take an action such as giving example that
we also do the same thing. That way people will believe what we say.
2. Empower Environmental Community
We can join the
community which has the purpose to maintain environmental sustainability such
as: park community, green community, etc. This way, we not only will empower
the sustainability of our environment, we also will meet a lot of people and
new friends
3. Turning Problem into Profit
For the young people who have the passion in entrepreneurship, we can turn the problem into profit. For example, build a business which using waste as raw material of the product. This has been implemented in some development country such as Indonesia. There is lots of business using waste as the raw material, for example: bags from product’s package, accessories from woodcutting waste, accessories from fabric waste, etc.

As the citizen of
earth, I also have the responsibility to maintain the sustainability of my
home. The action that I can do now is to empower the environmental
organization. As an example, I have joined the environmental youth organization
called ‘Diet Kantong Plastik’, this organization suggest people to decrease the
used of plastic bag.
By joining
environmental organization, as you can fulfill your role as the citizen of
earth, you will also meet and known a lot of people, sharing knowledge and
experience also train yourself to be more confident around a lot of people.
This is like you will get a lot of benefit just by joining one activity.
Yes, we can use LESS
energy for MORE benefit in the future. We can produce LESS waste to gain MORE sustainable
environment. It might be sound simple but the best way to a sustainable environment
start from us. We, as the citizen of
earth can do a lot of thing that we didn’t realize will help this earth
indirectly.
